Songs of the Season 2023- The Cherry Tree Carol – Mary Hopkin
“The Cherry Tree Carol” is one of my favorite Christmas carols, though this Mary Hopkin version isn’t my favorite. (It’s grown on me though!) Mary Hopkin is known best for the song “Those Were the Days“, which came out in 1968. However, she did other songs as well, this very old carol being one of them.
Evidence of versions of this song date back to the 1500s or so, and one of the interesting thing I like about this version is that the verse about Christ’s birth being January 6 is retained. So, whether one is celebrating Epiphany, Theophany, Christmas, or Christmas Eve, I wish you all the best!
Orthodox Christian mom with more than a passing interest in technology. And music. And history... And, and... My poor kids, right? They ask me a question and they get a lesson on something or another! In any case, I've always liked to write, so please grab a cup of tea (or other hot beverage) and let's get to know each other through the written word. :)
May God bless and keep you, this day and always.
