  1. Man I used to tramp through the underbrush of Texas Hill Country with the tools of an amateur archaeologist (chisel, hammer). Creek beds held some treasures: fossils and footprints of long dead creatures. I really believed that I was gonna find a big dinosaur. I usually came home after 5-6 hours exhausted, dirty. I guess kids aren’t allowed that anymore.

    1. Sounds like amazing fun! 🙂

The pictures came from the Calgary Zoo in 2013. They’ve had dinosaurs there since 1941, I guess, though only one of the original set of 55 remains. I guess they need to change things up every once in awhile!

The thing is, the zoo is on an island, and less than two weeks after we were there, there was a major flood that destroyed a lot of the zoo… These “creatures” were probably all underwater, but were it not for the valiant efforts of the zoo staff, most of the animals probably would have died. As it was, I guess they ended up putting a couple of tigers in the local jail temporarily! I did get a couple of pictures of the peacocks, which I didn’t include here. In “researching” this post, I found out that besides most (or all) of the fish, four of the peacocks died. Whether that was all they had, I don’t know.
