    1. There’s a man named Anton Kratochvil, who came to Racine in the early 1900s. He’s got somewhat of a colorful history, but he ran for mayor of Racine in 1935. Later on, he patented his design for round houses, believing that they cost less to construct and that they were easier to heat. Apparently, he sold plans to people around the country, but there are something like 12 Kratochvil houses in SE Wisconsin, and according to the one list, 11 are in Racine. Six of these are clustered together on Rapids Drive, the three round ones, then the later oval, “sea shell” design… Two are across the street from the round ones, and the duplex is about half a block down from the three round houses.

      I’d been meaning to take pictures of the round houses for years, and I finally did it this past weekend.

      The house at 2024 Rapids Dr (#1 in this post) was sold this past August. Yesterday, I easily found pictures of the interior; this morning, I’m having trouble with it.
