Sunday Gratitude – 31.III.2024

For those celebrating Easter today, Happy Easter, Christ is Risen!

For us Orthodox, we’ve got another month of Lent before our Easter (Pascha). I really dislike it when there’s this much time between the two. On the other hand, I’m totally “out of practice” when it comes to having Easter early. Wasn’t it just New Year or something?

Where does the time go? I blink, and here we are at the end of another week. I’m grateful for it, and that the kids get a couple of days off of school for Easter.

I’m glad for beautiful things, for having gotten to see an amazing rainbow this week, and to be reminded that God stays with us even when there’s a shock to the system, so to speak.

I’m thankful for the house around me and the kids at home, and that my littlest, when she says she doesn’t like me, she’s just temporarily annoyed about something and will probably be back in my lap in 30 minutes if it’s available.

I’m grateful if I can be a help to anybody; and I feel bad when I feel like I’m failing that. People say a lot that they don’t have things figured out, and sometimes its true, but sometimes a person can have things pretty much figured out without having a lot of control over the situation. In that case, it’s kind of steering in the general direction on the ocean until the storm is over. But I’m thankful for the perspective.

Most of my Easter thoughts tend to be attached more to Pascha these days, but I’m grateful for Christ’s sacrifice. It’s hard trying to express that in any way that makes sense, because it’s not a pastel bunny type thought. Last year, during some of the worst of everything, something came to mind that was more than a thought, but not quite a vision, but kind of a revelation that one’s mind latches on to when it hits something profoundly true. And there was Jesus suffering on the Cross, and there was my suffering, and it all kind of came together, and from that there was just this sensation of absolute love pouring forth, and that love subsumes it all.

As always, I’m grateful to you all. 🙂

  1. I hope you have a lovely lenten season.

I loved this line: And there was Jesus suffering on the Cross, and there was my suffering, and it all kind of came together, and from that there was just this sensation of absolute love pouring forth, and that love subsumes it all.
