Sunday Gratitude – 14.IV.2024

I guess I’ve been doing these posts for a good year now; it’s strange, because the whole idea of a year has become so plastic. On one hand, it still seems like ages and ages ago, and on the other, a blink of the eye.

I’m grateful this week for the good weather, and the feeling that spring is finally breaking through for good. Up here, we all knew not to trust the mildness of February, and although March wasn’t terrible, it wasn’t at all warm. Yes, what am I talking about? We had snow just a week and a half ago! However, today as I was driving, the temperature outside showed over 70℉.

I’m grateful that things here have been relatively quiet, and some things are getting done, and it seems to be slowly making a difference. I trimmed back arbor vitae, pulled some weeds, planted some morning glories, and with the little girls, planted some carrots, and that was all really good.

We didn’t get a total eclipse here, but even at 91%, watching the eclipse was fascinating. I’m thankful for wonder like that. I checked back to some pictures from 2017, and there’s one of a cicada that’s being held. I didn’t remember that, but since the photo was taken when the world got cooler and darker, I *think* the thing was in some sort of torpor from the rapid change of temperature. There are so many wonders, and so many that have been forgotten! I talked to two friends who saw the total eclipse, and both were really excited about the experience!

I’ve been washing dishes by hand the last couple of months; I called “my place”, but they do plumbing, not appliance repair, and since they didn’t know if it was a plumbing issue or not, they didn’t send someone. And… I just don’t know who to call about appliances. In any case, on a whim, I turned the power back on to the dishwasher, and at least for now, it seems to be working. (I’m wondering if something was blocking a tube and if it was food, being very dry would allow it to shrink and be easier to wash away.)

I’m grateful to have gotten to chat with a friend I usually don’t catch on the phone. 🙂 I’m grateful to have gotten some time out in the sunshine, and I’m grateful that I can work outdoors and listen to things that are interesting. On a whim, I took the youngest three to the park yesterday, and it was absolutely gorgeous. There were a good number of people out there, but the playground was still not so busy as to make it unenjoyable.

As always, I am thankful for you, as readers, as commenters, and as people who pray.
