Sunday Gratitude – 24.III.2024

(Just a note – I haven’t finished “Saturday on Substack” this week because last night my computer froze and as it was after midnight, I figured that I could update later, and when I went to update on Substack a little while ago, I couldn’t – the page I was working on couldn’t be worked on and essential navigation buttons weren’t working.)

All in all, it’s been a good week, and I’m thankful for that. I’m thankful that I got to make it to church on Thursday, though unplanned until almost the last minute, and I’m thankful to have been helpful to the service on Saturday. And today was really nice as well!

I’m thankful to be seeing a little bit of progress in some of the work here. I’m grateful to have been able to get through the week and not feel crushed by it. I’m grateful to hear what might turn out to be some really good news for a friend who really needs it.

I’m grateful that the snow seems to be disappearing almost as fast as it came, though I’m grateful that my youngest got what was probably a last chance to run around and play in the snow.

This absolutely looked like an angel embracing the sun, and the light spreading out beneath the sun with the clouds. I knew a cell-phone photo wasn’t going to do it justice, but you get a little bit of the idea, especially if you think of the very top there as the neck.

I’m grateful to have had the chance to catch up with a friend – over two hours on the phone! *L* It turns out my bone conduction headset also has a microphone, so it was easy to pick up the boy’s room and wash dishes and have hands free to work, and ears free to hear what was going on around me. When I think about what a daytime call like that would have cost even when I was in college! I’m grateful that we can talk to people practically anywhere for minimal cost.

I’m grateful to be learning things, to have a roof above our heads, sustenance, and even a decent amount of comfort. I am grateful to God who loves me, and that there are people who love me as well. I am extraordinarily grateful for all of you who read and write and interact here as well.

    1. I didn’t even think of it that way until you mentioned it! This, despite having made it to church on Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday! *L*

There’s a fair amount of stuff that I need to work on – I feel very, very guilty sometimes because at this point in my life, I’m nowhere near fasting the way that the Orthodox Church fully does, although I don’t officially have “permission” to. I don’t mean to make my own rules, but from the priests I hear, “the food is the least of it” whereas the blogs are kind of the complete opposite, “It’s Lent, now let’s bring out the big cookbook!” I could make myself crazy about the food, but that wouldn’t be healthy either, so I’m trying to do what I can, and hoping that God holds on at those points where I just can’t. He does though.

I’m really struck, though, at the dedication a priest (should) have to follow that vocation. At the same time, just realizing that as Christians, our dedication shouldn’t be any less, though we have different functions within the Church.

But it was a good week. :)
